Ackros: The multiverse
22/03/11 || Altmer
As fellow staffer and hero Khlysty reviewed this band already, there’s not going to be much difference between my review and his. Khlysty was pretty much spot on with his description. The band describe themselves as progressive, but this is the complete fucken opposite of progressive. It’s barely even death metal. It’s just thrash with growls. There’s the occasional deathy riff here and there, but overall this is the sort of boredom that makes watching paint dry the type of productive activity that depressive people get themselves into just to prevent themselves from hearing this album.
Now, Khlysty was a lucky bastard. He only got to review a silly demo. Basically, it’s four songs and this one is, what, eleven. Now, this sort of music can be interesting for 15 minutes, half an hour max. But this is a full-length and the monotony is unbearable. Seriously, who the fuck needs eleven thrash metal songs with growls that all sound exactly the fucken same. This album is forty minutes and that’s at least 30 too long for me. Thrash is a fucking boring genre if it’s not done really, really well. Even Slayer’s masterpieces weren’t 40 minutes long, or almost 40 minutes. And Slayer is ten times better than this derivative piece.
Now, the last thing: these guys are, apparently, Belgian. I’m the first one to like Belgian stuff, like chocolate, or fries, or the inability to form a working national government, but these guys… nope. I can’t name a single Belgian band that’s legendary (and only one that will be in the future. No, I don’t play in it). I even go there every month. But if these guys ever play a gig that I attend then I am walking out for drinks. Because this doesn’t get my panties wet.
Oh, and another hint: having constipated Phil Anselmo vocals is no improvement over the growls. Whoever thought that was a fucken great idea needs to be shot in the head several times with a badly loaded shotgun. Just so you get the funny effects of having little bits and pieces of the head blown off. Fuuck you.
This is fucking boring. If you’ve depleted your resources of A and B grade brutality you could consider listening to this, but you’re better than that. At least I am.
Recommendation: Fucking suicide. Boredom is a capital sin.
